Many countries feared that the outflow of reinsurance premiums would have a negative effect on the countries' capital accounts and created state-owned reinsurers. Chile was one of the early countries to do so. The Caja de Reaseguradora was founded with Swiss Re's help in 1928. Other Latin American countries, such as Argentina and Brazil, soon followed. Towards the middle of the 20th century, a large number of the world markets had semi or fully nationalised reinsurance.
