In the 20th century the employees of insurance and reinsurance companies used various types of office machines and calculators to master the rapidly increasing number of transactions and calculations they had to manage.
Various forms of slide rules proved to be useful, followed by the introduction of mechanical calculators which were later replaced by more and more complex electrically driven computation machines.
The devices pictured above were all in use at Swiss Re in Zurich. They are now stored in the Swiss Re Group Historical Archives.
